Even the most highly respected and regulated brothels in the world are having their problems. Prince Albert will never resemble the Hamburg Reeperbahn, or the Amsterdam Canal Red Light district, so it might be better to phone the police each time. Maybe they will eventually get tired of receiving complaints, and do something about it.

It's all a game to the girls. The cops come, they scatter. The cops go, there back.

why not turn the Nash into a Brothel? thats all that use that place anyway.

the oldest means of a living is never going to stop. we can not and will not provide free drugs and homes to the drug users which is the reasons they walk the street. stop the drugs and you stop loads of crime. so we cant stop it we might as well control it. a brothel or red light district with heavy penalties if caught out side it and and control the health in a helpful environment. you then control the johns,the drugs slow down, the health gets cleaner. the crime does go down . its not the best fix but it cleans the streets up where children and families live and schools are. if not then those who cry the hardest should pay the extra taxes for the crimes that are never going to stop.

Come on; this is not the proper forum for a social issue of this magnitude. We can barely get potholes, graffiti, or street lights fixed in this city. Could somebody close this issue please?

The police will not stop prostitutes as most of them are on drugs.The police follow the prostitutes to their drug dealers and then they get the dealers location.The police would rather get drug dealers off city streets than prostitutes.In other words police are stalking prostitutes in order to get the bigger threats to our society.

Well, maybe start taking plate numbers of the grandpas, and businessmen using there services and reporting them to the police. The girls are doing this because they are forced to not because they enjoy it. Or as others are saying a brothel so they can be managed better. Copenhagen, is another great successful place for this. But until people open there eyes and realize this profession will not be going away I know this wont happen.

Why not direct this to your city councilor?...........Although they may be reluctant to be proactive on this, or any other serious subject.

They seem to be mentally stressed out on just parking violations or whether or not to raise your water bills.

paresident: most of these girls are NOT forced into it. most of them are just looking for an easy way to make cash. P.A. has a fairly free market system. Pimps are few.

I've been propositioned in the food court, by 3 girls who were just finished work. They were NOT being forced.

Not only 13th st but how about all over the city. The police are slackingand letting this city get disgusting. Take a look at Downtown Central Ave area- hardly the place that anyone wants to be.

I believe prostitution is a minor issue compared to others in the City.

There are ways to deal with Prostitution that seems to work elsewhere, but Canadian Society would rather hand out free drugs and needles and propagate another problem than to deal with this one.

Don't blame the cops, they are there to try to keep the girls safe not stop them since it would be just about impossible to do that. Blame the people who are willing to pay a 13 (or younger) girl for sex.

As long as there are perverts willing to pay for sex, there will always be someone willing to provide that service no matter where it happens. Soclal services departments are overwhelmed and cannot or now don't even want to intervene with these young people on the street. Just think about this, some of our tax dollars are actually supporting these hookers as most of them also collect welfare as it is. That goes the same for their pimps, they also scam the system.That's how bad our social services programs are now. There is just simply not enough manpower to police the scams in these departments. Single women with children on social services funding, raising children and hooking at the same time..Some of these women move their so called pimp boyfriends/ gang members into their supposedly single homes. This is a common practice and can the department of S/A prove this? If they had enough people investigating, yes they could but they don't! Until then, enjoy the show in these drug infested hooker dens.

And as long as there are girls out there they have the right to safety just like any other person.

Common practice, MisterD? You're saying it's common for single moms to be hooking as well as collecting welfare? Really? Not any of the women I know do that. They're interested in raising their kids right and trying to make ends meet. Have *you* ever been on Welfare? Maybe check out the website for Social Assistance and the .pdf files that list the rates for PA.

Let me give you an example. Rent for a small house or apartment runs upwards of $700 for something that isn't a health hazard. Social Assistance allots $358 for rent for a single person. Sask Rental Housing Supplement offers $185. Subsidized housing has a minimum waiting list of two years. Single people are alloted $255 basic allowance. That doesn't include power, natural gas and water/sewage. It doesn't cover the phone or any 'luxuries', like the occasional cup of coffee or trip to McDonald's. It doesn't even cover the suggested cost of $125/person/month for groceries, once the bills are paid. Going back to school to get your high school diploma gets you another $40 a month. Going to SIAST doesn't get you anything. *You* have to pay for that.

I'm on a disability through Social Assistance and my annual income is **less** than $10,000. If I could get out of the house, you can bet I'd earn a few extra dollars any way I could. It sure beats starving most days.

The sad thing is that you all just want it to stop. No body has a solution cuz there is none.
The best thing would be to do what Ontario is trying to do. Legalize it, tax the hell out of it, turn it into an industry and introduce safety legislation. Move them from the street into brothels. Protect all involved and stop the 'dirty'ness of it.

Street level prostitution is the problem (under age workers, unsafe conditions, etc..) get rid of it.
No other way will work to stop it. Some girls just figure it out. Without a man there would be no MANipulation.

Exactly, PAJay. There's no way we're going to get rid of it, all things considered, so the only option we have to get it off the streets is to put it in a building. Make it safer for the guys and girls and some may even quit the trade because it's not an illicit thrill any more. It'll be a job and not everyone wants to have one of those, do they?

Allowing legal prostitution will solve part of the problem but there will always be junkies who walk the street and the underage girls. Remeber the dirtiest part of prostitution is the girls who have become victems of the pimps who don't care how they make a buck.
