I completely agree the Vermack / Parliament Drive intersection needs an overhaul. One of our neighbors was killed in the cross walk last summer. Nothing has changed aside from some limb cutting. Months ago, I contacted former Councilman Riticher and he basically responded that this would be addressed in the future with the planned Vermack sidewalk and (unfunded) Vermack park projects. This shouldn't prevent a much needed improvement to a crosswalk NOW. Regarding parents are dropping off their kids in the middle of the road portion of the comment. If you were the driver on 1/20 just before 8AM who almost ran someone over this morning, the child was dropped off 3 car lengths back from the stop sign at Parliament Dr near Vermack and exited the passenger side of the vehicle along the curb (not in the middle of the road). While you you were waiting to drive across Vermack from Olde Village, the child was crossing Parliament Dr to enter the Vermack cross walk when you came across Vermack Rd from Olde Village. Pedestrians always have the right of way and luckily you did stop. The issue wasn't where the child was dropped off or walking, it was your limited visibility crossing Vermack in a hurry (likely to not get hit by a speeding car in the 25MPH zone) when you nearly stuck the child. I was there and saw this first hand. If this wasn't you, perhaps you're referring to another incident. Bottom line - contact our new city councilman Rob Price to have this intersection improvement addressed now. rob.price@dunwoodyga.gov

Nope, but I am NOT surprised. Parents should not be dropping off kids where there is NO SIDEWALK and plenty of traffic,but it is a free country. While it is certainly not against the law, I would never put my child in that position despite pedestrians having the right of way. Blaming the driver at fault would not bring me sufficient comfort. We all need to accept Dunwoody is changing and some may have to lose some front yard space to make life safe for the children. Vermack pool and Dunwoody HS are excellent reasons Vermack needs sidewalks with designated crosswalks on both sides for its entire length at this point.
