I woke up to traffic this morning. Low rumble almost drowns out the sound of the dirt bike racing across the neighborhood.

In working on getting a sound barrier in another part of Fair Haven a group of which I am a member learned that the City has no role in the construction, maintenance or repair of the barrier along the highways. These barriers belong to the CT Department of Transportation (DOT) and it is their responsibility to repair and maintain them.

The greatest contribution the City can make to this effort is a letter from the Mayor to DOT pointing out the problem and requesting that it be fixed. To expedite this residents should get the information about the problem -- location and how it impacts your quality of life to Alder Rodriguez so that he can request the letter from the Mayor. I know of a couple of instances where they Mayor has written such a letter.

There is a New Haven organization that has helped residents win changes and repairs to the barriers at no cost to resident. Lee, thank you for your posting. You are correct and when I stated I have the city working on this matter that is exactly what I was referring to. Having a letter forwarded as a municipality will hopefully go along way with the DOT.

Lee, any information you could send along would be fantastic. I've been trying for a while to see how we could get a sound barrier for I-91 for the Lyon/William st area.

I spoke to the mayors office and a letter will be sent on behalf of the mayor to DOT urging repair of the sound barrier. Hoping to have the letter sent no later then Tues. of next week.

The barrier is being repaired at this moment. It makes a huge difference in the noise level. Just need the trash removed. Thanks to Alderman R & Ms. Lopez in advance.
