I'm bringing a shovel with me on my work today to get some of the untouched sidewalks on State. Agreed on citations but might as well clear them if we can ourselves as well.

Yes, instead of complaining, local residents should pitch in and help shovel them as a community effort. There are a lot of folks out there with bad backs, or other health issues and those who can not afford to hire someone.

Those are fair points. However, when the house has clearly managed to clear out their drive way and given themselves ample room to get from the front door and to the car, I have less sympathy.

I agree with both Ben and Erin.
Residents know the seniors on our block and we have helped them already--just this morning we shoveled new parking spaces and helped them move their cars so that the plows can come tonight.
But, as Erin pointed out, some residents shovel a narrow strip from their doors to their cars and leave the rest of the sidewalk blocked. If they are healthy enough to go out jogging and cross-country skying, then one would expect that they are fit to shovel their sidewalks... ;-)
Besides, it is scary to see people walking (or pushing a baby carriage...) in the middle of a one-lane street with cars & trucks coming from both directions!

Agreed about the problems in this block. Some progress was made today on a few houses but many have clear drives but no sidewalk access.

With the historic amount of snow that we received within a 24 hour period, digging out as a community has taken much longer than we would have liked. DPW continues snow removal and road widening operations, LCI has been delivering snow shoveling warnings, and 203-946-8221 is still the number to call for assistance with storm related questions and information. It's funny that on here and the revere 911 calls, the City claims to have completed snow removal. Many streets, including a part of Blake near Farnham St, Dwyer St and others are only 1 and 1/2 lanes wide.
