In the future, how do I hear about things like this directly from the City?

You have a couple of options. For information straight from the city, you can sign up for the city's emergency notification system here: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/EmergencyInfo/optin.asp It sends emails, texts or calls about emergencies like extreme weather. You could also join an email list from your alderperson and you would get neighborhood updates as well as info about emergencies. To join mine, email me at jessica.holmes@gmail.com. With the historic amount of snow we have had in a 24 hour period, digging out as a community has taken much longer than we would have liked. DPW continues snow removal and road widening operations, LCI has been delivering snow shoveling warnings, and 203-946-8221 is still the number to call for assistance with storm related questions and information.
