This intersection has been redesigned and is on the DOT Schedule. All design phases are complete. The problem is that the State DOT has postponed this project from 2007 to 2010/2011. As of last month the DOT has now postponded the project indefinitely due to state budget cuts. State and local official are fighting to get this project back on the table and secure the proper state funding and committment.

When is this traffic nightmare going to be fixed?

The State of CT DOT has postponed construction due to the State Budget Crisis. Rep. Esposito is working at the State level to get the project funded. We hope to know one way or another when the Stae Budget is discussed and approved. Our mission is to get this funding secured and the project completed asap.

How could the DOT postpone this project. It is the worst intersection in West Haven. Instead they put a rotary in the Woodmont section. Once again I am living on the wrong side of town it seems. Nothing gets done in Allingtown.

What is going on with this intersection!??! I see buildings with markings on them and NOTHING is done yet?! This is pathetic.

I cant believe that this is still posted here from february. This is by far the worst intersection i have ever encountered. no matter what time of day or night, the potential for an accident is emminent. I try to avoid this intersection at all costs but sometimes i cant.

I'm the person that originally posted the issue and the only thing that has happened is continued accidents at the intersection and my momthly reminder to close this issue out if it's been resolved. I doubt it will ever be resolved. I have to drive through this intersection 4 or 5 times a day with 3 kids in the car. I can remember that intersection 40 years ago when it was stop signs instead of stop lights. My mom would tell us to 'hold on tight' as she tried to go from campbell ave to forest road. They definitely need a circle there.. Its the large amount of empty space in that intersection that causes trouble and people trying to turn left onto forest with oncoming traffic. The biggest issue with oncoming traffic is that the car coming up orange ave (from new haven towards orange) on the inside lane will wave the person turning from orange avenue onto forest to go... that car will go and gets creamed by a car that was coming up orange avenue in the outside lane. It happens weekly if not more.

Hi! I feel like I'm in the twilightttt zonee..I see now that it was your post.. I created an issue for the same intersection over a year ago but don't see mine now.. But it definitely is a dangerous intersection and I hope they fix it before someone dies.

Something needs to be done here, I avoid driving over there whenever possible. I was almost hit by someone not familiar with the intersection about a month ago. The city needs to have there engineers study this intersection and make the needed changes. I know money is tight for the city right now but people lives are more important than money.

The Mayor and Jim Obrien do not know where Allingtown is.The Mayor will only show up if somebody has a camera to take his picture.Chief Obrien is to busy playing with his fire hose.Allingtown used to be a nice place to live.Now its a total pig sty.

I had also posted a fixit for the same intersection. I live in the area and I am so glad that so many people have the same concern!!! I hope that some thing is done. You would think since the University is right there, they would be more cautious. It's sad to say but it will probably take someone to get killed for the city to take action!!!

Heres what gets me! The area where that big green ugly eyesore is located (the old theater) is up for sale as well as the two houses next to it. So why isnt the city buying it to fix this intersection - like a big circle!?

I agree that this intersection is dangerous and insane.

Yes. i must agree with you.. I have been driving through this intersection for over thirty years and have gone smoothly through many other intersections in the USA.THIS ONE IS THE WORST.I Am embarrassed.

Is there anyway to find out if city officials are ever intending to take action on this issue? This thread is one of the longest-running threads on Click-Fix with one of the highest numbers of posters, votes, and comments. I cannot, however, find a single response from municipal officials regarding this intersection. Their persistent silence on this intersection speaks volumes.

I also have an open issue about trying to walk or ride a bicycle up the hill towards UNH, I wrote to the DOT and have received no reply. I've been clipped twice by rear view mirrors and most bus drivers won't give an inch as they try to suck you under their wheels, it's an ongoing disgrace.

Are any West Haven officials even paying attention to this? No response to of the issues I've started or commented on, except what looks like an automated response from Eleanor Turkington.

This intersection is terrible. It is impossible to get through here during the day and is backed up for blocks during rush hour. Drivers avoid this intersection which hurts the local businesses.

Hey, don't forget to send your name, address and phone to Eleanore Turkington! She's been commenting on this issue for three years now, so clearly it's been resolved. Traffic ALL OVER WEST HAVEN is horrible, but nothing ever changes.

I wonder if now that there's a new mayor, the time is right to encourage West Haven city government to become more responsive to the concerns people are putting on SCF.

The state told me in an email a few months ago that due to my pushing a few of the right buttons up there they have added bike lanes and sidewalks (both up and down the hill) to the intersection plans. They now plan on starting work this summer, I'll believe it when I see it.
