Create an Amtrak, commuter/regional rail station to allow for passenger transportation to Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville and other areas where Huntsvillians regularly travel to. It would also become an opportunity for visitors to arrive in the Downtown and enhance the amount of public activity in the city. The current Historic Depot and C&VB could be integrated into the design.
  • 407 Holmes Ave Ne Huntsville, Alabama - Huntsville

407 Holmes Avenue NE has a public sidewalk that is made of bricks and there are some areas where the bricks are not level creating a tripping hazard. 403 and 405 Holmes Avenue NE also have the same brick sidewalk.

The city code of ordinances states the following:
"No sidewalk shall be built of brick or of any material other than that prescribed by the Engineering Standards for Construction of Public Improvements (1991 edition) unless authorized by the city engineer."

The city needs to remove the brick sidewalks at the properties on Holmes Avenue that have them and replace with poured in place concrete like the majority of the street has.

Sec. 23-85. - Material for sidewalks.
No sidewalk shall be built of brick or of any material other than that prescribed by the Engineering Standards for Construction of Public Improvements (1991 edition) unless authorized by the city engineer.

I asked the owner at AM Booth's Lumberyard why he lets the railings in front of his business look so terrible and unsafe. He said the sidewalk and railings are part of the street and city property, he was reprimanded several years ago for fixing them himself. He also pointed out that the last time the city repaired it 3 years ago they tried to use caulk.
The city claims to be in support of local businesses and local music. Please support this large music venue by making the sidewalk safe and attractive.

By expanding the skateboard park in downtown Huntsville, tourism will increase by traveling skateboarders and their families. Also, paving the parking lot between the skateboard park and the Huntsville dog park will help keep vehicles from having pebble damage.

Owner installed a fence on the north side of the home. I doubt the Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission was notified or approved the fence, as required. The fence is raw cheap wood panels, is over 6 foot tall (6 foot is the maximum in the Old Town District). It has never been painted or stained and does not match the character of the neighborhood or the home. If they could contact the Historic Commission to see what they could do to make this fence compliant and match the character of the home, this would help. The fence is also in bad need of paint as it is just weathered raw wood.

The 35mph speed limit sign by Sherwin Williams is the only posted limit going south on meridian / Greene St, all the way to Williams. I would guess that there used to be a 25mph sign somewhere in there, and highly recommend that it be replaced before you get to the Todd. thanks
