Pedestrians are currently being rerouted during the Lowell Memorial Park construction to a pedestrian crossing on Mount Auburn St across from Mount Auburn cemetery. This crosswalk has no stop light or sign and no pedestrian flashing light. Yet it is the crosswalk that many school children are being rerouted to. And a crossing guard has not even been out in place. I don’t even like crossing at that crosswalk as an adult as it is very unsafe given car speeds on that section of road. This issue needs to be addressed ASAP before a child gets hit. I have reached out to the DNR email address, but as a MA wide agency, I have little faith in a rapid reply. Thoughts on what can be done here to ensure safety, particularly for our school children crossing in the morning & after school?

    Sincerely,
    Kris - Cambridge resident

In the safety cross walk, close to the medium strip on the odd side of the street, a large pothole has opened up. This is a very active cross walk, used by many of the families who attend the day care across the street as well as seniors at Burns apartments on Churchill. Can you fix it before someone breaks an ankle? Thank you very much!

    Hi,
We've noticed an infestation of Japanese Knotweed growing the gravel patch behind 167 Hampshire St. We know that this is a highly invasive species and are not sure how to deal with it since it's roots can get pretty deep and breaking it just causes it to multiply faster. Does the city have any way of dealing with this invasive plant?

  • 603 Concord Avenue Cambridge, Massachusetts, 02138 - Cambridge
Construction at 603 Concord has been going on for the past month with no notification/information to tenants. Entryways are not being blocked off or adequately shielded from construction equipment. An attachment is being added to the building which replaces several parking spots including the handicapped spot for the building.
In general there are several unsafe elements in and around the building. The most distressing is the use of the stairwells for storage of construction materials, and the bolting shut from the outside of the only direct exit from the garage.
Construction that has been going on for the past 2 years at the neighboring building has been extremely disruptive and in breach of noise ordinance (outside of hours/on weekends) and they often block access to 603 Concord from Concord Ave and Wheeler St simultaneously. However in the past month, there seems to be a huge increase in the lack of oversight and adherence to safety and city regulations. This morning at 7:15 they were blocking access to the bus stop.

there have been rampant cyclists running the drop sign located at the intersection of Appleton and brattle st. I've personally observed cyclists blowing through the stop sign on the bike path daily, with no repercussions, I was nearly t-boned the other day by a cyclist running the drop sign on an electric assist bicycle. this should be addressed by the city. what an idiotic bike lane design. what's the point of the bike lane if the users do not abide by traffic laws? it's at the point where I'm anticipating any cyclists blowing through the signs, and it's dangerous.

  • Charlestown Ave & Monsignor Obrien Hwy Cambridge, MA, 02141, USA - East Cambridge

Cars repeatedly block the intersection of Charlestown Ave. and Monsignor O'Brien Highway, resulting in continuous gridlock and horrible honking and noise pollution for nearby residences.

Cars traveling toward the city along Monsignor O'Brien Highway continue into the intersection even after the light turns red, because there is no sign warning not to block the intersection. This in turn prevents cars traveling along Charlestown Ave. from being able to cross the intersection when their light turns green, and creates excessive, ongoing and stressful honking at all times of day.

  • Charlestown Ave & Monsignor Obrien Hwy Cambridge, MA, 02141, USA - East Cambridge

There is extreme gridlock and resulting noise congestion coming from the intersection of Charlestown Ave. and Monsignor O'Brien Highway. At all times of day, but even more so during the afternoon and evening hours of 1pm-7pm, there is constant congestion and gridlock in the center of the intersection. Because there is no marked box, nor signs reminding drivers that it is illegal to block the intersection ("Don't Block the Box"), cars driving into the city from Monsignor O'Brien Hwy toward Charles Dam Road block the intersection and prevent cars traveling on Charlestown Ave. from passing through.

This has caused a tremendous amount of honking and frankly, unbearable, noise pollution. There has been nonstop honking nearly every minute for 4-6 hours straight over the past few days alone. For those in the residential apartment buildings next to this intersection, it is stress-inducing and extremely difficult to work or live with the honking.

There is a crack on a stone cornice at 279 Western Ave. (next to church) which is immediately next to the sidewalk. If a section were to fall on pedestrian it would be serious.
This should be inspected asap and a determination made as to corrective measure required.

How long does private construction get to claim all the sidewalk and bike lane space on a major road? This project has permanent blockage going on for months, if not a year+. Mostly they have plenty of space for staging their construction on their own property, yet they've laid claim 24/7 to the right of ways at a busy place. Can you examine their need to semi permanently block the public way and curtail if possible? Much appreciation for Inspectional Services or whomever for looking into it.
