Put enough stop signs in, and people won't use our neighborhood streets for a shortcut they can speed through. But that logic eludes this city. There aren't enough police to stop all the speeders. The road must be designed to police itself. Good luck "talking to the wall" on this one.
The police are some of the worst speeders on Hubbard. If they are not willing to install a stop sign then put in speed bumps. Something has to be done.
Jeff, are you Jeff from Church Streets same problem? Stop signs are not to be used for speed control. They cause more rear end accidents, and cause people to speed more, to make up for lost time from having to stop. This is a fact. Hubbard is another main collector street between state trunklines in the city. The speed limit is probably set artificially low to begin with, per the 85th percentile speed limit guidelines. http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1593_47093_25802-87384--,00.html Please take a look at this website for some information about establishing realistic speed limits.
I know one thing. Asking the mayor for help, won't work. Also, asking the City Manager, any commissioner, the traffic safety commission, the sheriff, Macomb County Road Commission, and even Fred Miller (our state Rep.), for help won't do a thing except leave you dumbfounded, feeling insignificant and angry that your safety is second to traffic flows and peoples right to drive "as fast as they feel comfortable". I've tried this route for years on my street. Good luck.
